Bark beetles are wood-boring pests that are special for creating especially aesthetical woodcut patterns on trees, which sometimes ressemble a graphein or an unclassified form of proto-writing.
I was inspired by those animalistic patterns for this series. I replicate them with Indian ink on several substrates in a vain attempt to wear it all out : an attempted depletion which over time results in the originally naturalistic representations' evolution into a rather ornemental stylization before it all eventually shifts to a geometrical outlining.
These meditative and thorough sessions have happened to bring a new feeling about my work – between plenitude and fulfilment.
